Drawings / 1970s forward

Pen & Pencil.

These are the earlier, simpler works: pencil, pen, line, and travel drawings. They came before the larger watercolor and acrylic projects, and they still carry the appeal of a direct mark that cannot easily be taken back.

Pencil drawing of an upright piano.
Piano drawing. Our "free" used piano, given to us by Lynn's boss in Boston as a wedding gift. It is hard to believe I had the patience to draw even the notes and the keys. Pencil.
Line drawing of a stoop and building.
Stoop and building. One of my favorite drawings. It was done the week my dad died, while I was walking around my mother's neighborhood in Riverdale, near the Bronx. I sat on a stoop and drew what was in front of me.
Line drawing of a harbor boat.
Harbor boat.San Francisco harbor.
Pencil drawing of a house.
House study.Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The owner saw me drawing his house, came out to look, and offered to move his car so I could see the street better. He did.
Pencil drawing of a street scene.
Street scene.Boston Back Bay. I especially like the old-style Volkswagen parked on the corner.
Pencil drawing of a cafe facade.
Cooper House.A drawing of Cooper House, a restaurant in Santa Cruz, California.
Pencil drawing of a stove or interior object.
Athens fruit seller.A street pencil drawing from Athens, Greece: a fruit seller and the objects around him.
Pencil drawing of a bridge.
Boston Public Garden bridge. The bridge in Boston's Public Garden, with the Prudential Center in the background.
